Groups are great for organizing on a personal level and for smaller scale interaction around a cause. Pages are better for brands, businesses, bands, movies, or celebrities who want to interact with their fans or customers without having them connected to a personal account, and have a need to exceed Facebookâs 5,000 friend cap.

How to set up a Facebook Page for business
(not profile) -
You created a Facebook account to connect with friends and family. You’ve got dozens of friends and tons of albums ranging from high school photos to poker parties. You just received a friend request from your boss or colleague. How do you seperate your personal life from your professional life?
One way is to group your friends into lists, and then set the privacy level for specific items, according to the lists. Lists might include your friends grouped by co-workers, high school friends, party friends, and relatives. You can set the level of privacy for the lists so they can see certain parts of your profile, or even certain photo albums.
Go to your friends tab, under Lists click Friends, then click Create new List. More help from Facebook Friends List help.
Next go to Privacy Settings, from the Settings menu at the top of your page.
Privacy options for Profile include:
- Profile
- Basic Info
- Personal Info
- Status and Links
- Photos Tagged of You
- Videos Tagged of You
- Friends
- Wall Posts
- Education Info
- Work info
Privacy options for Search include:
- Search Discovery (who can find you on Facebook)
- Search Results Content including:
- My profile picture
- My friend list
- A link to add me as a friend
- A link to send me a message
- Pages I am a fan of
- Public Search listing (outside of Facebook)
There are also some privacy settings for News Feed and Wall, as well as Applications.
